What is Fan Made Fallout? Fan Made Fallout, or FMF for short, is a mod for the game Fallout 2 (F2) by Interplay. It uses the engine from F2 to tell a brand new story set in the Fallout universe. You will need a legal copy of Fallout 2 to play this mod. While this mod originally came about to rejuvenate the Fallout community and tide them over until the release of Fallout 3 (which at the time we didn't think would ever come) it's now evolved into something we're doing to celebrate the Fallout titles of the past. Who are the designers? Assorted Fans of the Fallout series are creating FMF. Some of those names you might recognize and others you may have never heard of but they all share one thing in common: a passion for Fallout. Do you have a release date? We've been around for over 6 years now. That's a long time. And to be honest, we're not sure when we'll be releasing a finished product. However, we are working very hard on a demo which is sort of a "proof of concept" for us. We hope to have that finished "soon" but release dates for this project are no longer realistic. Just let us have fun playing game developer and if you're lucky you'll get to see what the hell we've been doing for all this time. How can I join the team? While we're always looking for quality members, right now we're working well as a team with the people we have. The core team in place has been working with the project for a while and we feel we have what we need to complete our demo. We're not above asking for help, though. If you'd really like to help out, please see the Recruitment Center subfolder in our public forum. What engine will you be using for the game? We will be using the original Fallout 2 ACE-LIPS system which allows users to push people out of the way and actually play the damn thing on Windows XP. We hope this will satisfy hungry gamers. We have given consideration to other engines or using the Fallout 2 resolution upgrade but have decided not worry anymore about those until they actually work completely and properly. Will there be real-time elements to FMF? No. We are staying true to the original games and FMF will be isometric third person with turn-based combat. Game mechanics will be the same as Fallout 1 and F2. Will there be a cost associated with getting to play the mod? No. We are offering this as a free modification to anyone who wants to download and play it. Will I need anything special to play the game? A working UNPIRATED copy of Fallout 2. We chose Fallout 2 because of minor improvements, like being able to push people out of the way, that will be used in FMF. It will be in the form of a modification for Fallout 2. How will items in the game compare to previous Fallout releases? You should recognize all your favorites like Mentats, the plasma rifle, and the super sledge! In addition to most of the common items from the Fallout series making an appearance, there will also be new items to check out. Some weapons and armour will be slighlty modified depending on the circumstances and we're looking to make throwing more useful. What about perks? There will be some new perks. Some will be available for purchase at specific levels as well as a few that are available only from NPCS (like Gecko-Skinning in Fallout 2). What are some of the different creatures I'll be facing? FMF will have plenty of creatures, humanoid and otherwise, to face in one way or another in the game. Many of your favorite will be back like the Ghouls, the Super Mutants, and of course ... rats! How about weapons? Unfortunately, due to the time setting and location of FMF, certain weapons will not be in the game. This is important because it keeps FMF based on the "Fallout World" and not some fantasy land bulls**t that we make up in order to appeal to more gamers. But most of the weapons you found in F1 and 2 will make an appearance in some fom here. Will there be NPC party members? Yes, we will have NPCs. What they will be, who they will be and whether they'll shoot you in the back or not... well, you'll just have to wait and see. What is the setting for the game? FMF will take place a few decades after the original Fallout (and therefore, a few decades before Fallout 2). The setting is Texas in the USA. This will be a previously unexplored section of the wasteland, mostly unaffected by the events in the other games. Well, except for one or two things that are needed to set the storyline and help explain the game world. What kinds of locations will you have in the game? We have several different areas planned. There will, of course, be a vault in there somewhere. Other locations inlude a shanty town along the Gulf of Mexico and a major city of the wastes called Lone Star. We hate to be much more specific then that at this time, because we don't want to spoil anything about the game (and hell, you never know what we'll change before release). Will FMF be geographically correct for it's setting location? Sort of, but not really. We're going to try and capture the essence of the state of Texas in the game, but map locations will likely not correspond to the real life locations you may (or may not) be familiar with. How many hours of gameplay are we talking here? The number of hours you take to complete FMF depends entirely on you. There will be as many "open ended" elements as possible to give you the feeling that your choices matter. There is a game clock, similiar to F1, which will help focus you in certain situations. But for the most part you're at your leasure to explore the wastes. With play testing we'll hopefully have more information on actual average playtime. What play styles will FMF support? You can play the game in any way, or combination, you want and beat it. A combat character will find a way to fight it out, as a diplomatic character might find a way to talk the way out of the situation. A character with low intelligence will find some things that someone with a higher intelligence might miss, likewise with the other way around. We try to keep paths open for the player to choose from. Will there be elements for those with good and bad karmas? We do plan on incorporating the "good vs. evil" element to the game. This will enable you to make or break the wastland according to your chosed play style. We've also considered playing a "dumb" character into the game as well. Will there be any replay value? Hell yes! Since you can play the game using one of several strategies (Combat Boy, Stealth Boy, Charisma Boy) with multiple solutions, there will be a lot of reasons to go back and play more than once. There are several different endings depending on the success or failure of your endeavors. We are trying to keep to the original aim of Fallout which was to create a slighlty different gaming experience for everyone. With a bit of luck we'll make it complex enough so that playing the game once will not be enough to experience everything. Will there be mature content in FMF? Yes, there will be some adult content, mostly in the language and suggestive themes department. We won't be lining the streets with hookers and blow (although that's not a bad idea) but we will incorporate sex, drugs, adult language, etc... where we feel its appropriate (and some places where it's not). And for the record, any sex scenes will feature the standard "black screen" that we've all come to know and love. | |||||||||||||||||||||
